Gaining and Staying in Control

Once you find you are having a lucid dream, the next step would be the gain control of it and become the director of your dreams. Lucid dreams, like normal ones, can still be scary sometimes and that's when we want to take control. It takes a lot of practice and patience to do this, so here are some tips in achieving that.

Believe in Yourself:
Confidence in your imagination skills is key. You must believe you can take over your dream. The more fear you have the more your dream will have control over you.

Remain Calm:
If you get overly excited about having a lucid dream you may become too aware of your body sleeping in your bed and you'll either wake up or be transported to another dream where you'll accept it as reality. The REM stage is rather short, so time is valuable, but rushing off to do something might wake you up.

Don't be Fooled:
Your subconscious will do just about anything to divert you back to a normal dream, even by planting false memories in your head. For example, you may be in a dream where you can fly and when you begin to question if you're dreaming, you suddenly remember you were born with that special ability. Don't accept illogical ideas as true facts. If think you might be dreaming, then always lean towards yes.

Direct the Movie:
If you're not in the dream, as though you were watching other people in a movie, then it should be a good indication that you're having a lucid dream. We get so involved in movies we watch that we ignore our surroundings, which is why we have a hard time using this as a key point. Try controlling the person you see and soon you will take over.
